So fullHOUSEsports might be in its infancy, but that doesn’t mean we don’t come in with hard-hitting investigative journalism. Today I was listening to Jim Rome’s radio show (yeah I listen to Rome, get over it) and he had Stevie Johnson on. For about the first 90% of the interview Johnson was just hitting it out of the park. Telling about his rough upbringing, the struggles he had to endure, how he worked to get to college. He even mentioned how his stepfather helped him out throughout the whole way, telling him what to avoid, showing him the kind of people he might become if he ever slipped up. It was all really inspiring stuff. That is until Rome asked him a question about his recent comments of wanting to have a quarterback competition, despite the fact that just over a year ago Ryan Fitzpatrick signed a six-year, $62 million contract.
Because I don’t have the transcript from Rome I’ll use his original comments from the Buffalo News:
“If we went out and got another quarterback, who knows what’ll happen? Fitz may still win, or the other guy my win,” Johnson said, via the Buffalo News. “Let it happen like that he is a good quarterback. We’ve all seen that. Obviously, they may bring somebody else in. I just hope it leads to competition. I think Fitz is one of those competitors. He may come out with the job again.”
So let me get this straight. Your argument, Stevie, is that Fitzpatrick will play better if you bring in another quarterback? That that won’t hurt his confidence even more? Are you out of your mind? You’re basically saying that you don’t trust him to throw you the ball and you would rather have someone else. Plain and simple. Way to have your QB’s back. I’m sure when Fitz starts and plays in every game he’ll be throwing the ball to you a lot. And for the record I understand the concept of bringing in someone else to light a fire on the starters ass, but probably not the franchise quarterback who’s already seen $21 mill of that $62. At least you’re training hard in the offseason to do your part though…
Oh wait, you also said that you’ve never done any offseason workouts besides playing basketball. Good call. I’m sure your teammates will looooovvveeee that. Rome even questioned if the Bills give him offseason workouts. His response (and I’m paraphrasing here), “Yeah I normally just put that in a drawer, and never see it again.”
Teammate of the year. Handsdown. Throws his QB under the bus. Than admits that he does nothing in the offseason while all his teammates are probably busting their asses off. Kinda makes you wish he would’ve talked about that Plax-impersonation-touchdown dance again. At least then it was something idiotic the public already knew about.
P.S. if this is all a ploy to get out of Buffalo then I totally get it. But I highly doubt that…hit it Marshawn…
