ESPN – Tracy McGrady is joining the San Antonio Spurs. The 33-year-old McGrady will be eligible to play for the Spurs during the playoffs because he was not on an NBA roster as of March. McGrady last played in the NBA during the 2011-12 season, averaging 5.3 points and 16.1 minutes per game for Atlanta. He played in the Chinese Basketball Association this year, averaging 25 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists.
The Spurs and Coach Pop have defined the old man rest game in the NBA. Doesn’t matter if they’re playing a marquee game or not. Oh, we’re playing the Heat? Yeah we’ll just sit all our guys and not even fly them to Miami. And why not? They still win. They’re currently #2 in the West. But signing Tracy McGrady? Didn’t he retire like 5 years ago due to old age? Wait a second. T-Mac is 33 years-old?? 33! WHAT!? Just to put that in perspective: He is 7 years younger than Jason Kidd, and 5 years younger than Ray Allen. So I guess he’s kinda still in normal playing age. But seriously, I used to have a pair of those black and blue TMACs from when he was with the Magic. I’m pretty sure I got those like 7 years ago. When T-Mac was in his hayday. So this blast from the past is pretty surprising. Hopefully this works out, or maybe this is just some kind of Plan B diabolical plan by Coach Pop in case they get upset in the first round. Just blame it all on Tracy: Mister 0-8 in the first round of the playoffs.
P.S. I know he played in the league last year, but it’s been about a decade since he was the scoring champ. Dude fell off the map.
